Claudia Acte : le destin d'une affranchie

Abstract : Under the Julio-claudian dynasty, the place of imperial freedmen, whose careers stepped up with promotions or favours given by the Emperor, was very important. Among this Familia Caesaris, a rare feminine figure has to be dissociated : Claudia Acte, the favourite of Nero. Very honored, she took an important place at a time when the young Emperor was affectionately unstable. Initiated to the politicals tractations, she decided, after all, to leave this closed world with the imperial domus and became successful into and out of Italy. In this portrait, we propose to abord three points, in order to raise the presence of the liberta, during her relation with Nero, then, when she left Rome, to conclude with a study of her own serui and liberti whose numerous inscriptions will allow us to know deeply the destiny of this freedwoman.
