Abstract : The use of coal has been documented for a long time by historical studies. Since 2008, preventive archeology has demonstrated its use since Roman times. The archaeological and archaeometric analysis of coal allows to better understand the contexts of its use. These analyzes allow both to identify the deposits used as well as the quality of the earth coal used.
