Les conditions de succès des startups

Abstract : The study of startups forms a specific field within the broader field of entrepreneurship, requiring dedicated research regarding the characteristics of these young companies, as well as the criteria for their success. Is success only measured by the amount of funds raised and a unicorn status? On the contrary, is it not necessary to take into account other economic and noneconomic dimensions to determine success ? Furthermore, what are the elements having an effect on the entrepreneurial success for startups ? After having developed a definition of the startup, thanks to the comparison between previous literature and a sample of 100 French startups, a qualitative study was carried out among 28 entrepreneurs to study the way in which entrepreneurs understand the concept of startup and test the different dimensions of entrepreneurial success identified in our research model. Subsequently, a second quantitative study was carried out on a sample of 114 entrepreneurs to test the prior elements having an effect on the entrepreneurial success for startups, these being linked to the profile of the entrepreneur, to the environment of the startup, or to the profile of the startup. This research has allowed us to better understand what entrepreneurial success is and the elements that can help it, also leading to practical managerial implications that can be implemented.
