The oscillating language in the Gospel according to Mark, the Apocryphal Letter of James and Clement of Alexandria’s Stromateis. Literary and hermeneutical perspectives

Résumé
Lead from a comparative perspective, this work brings out a similar functioning in the Gospel according to Mark, the Apocryphal Letter of James and Clement of Alexandria’s Stromateis. This functioning consists of two aspects. The first one is an ambivalent way of building the text. In the three works, the text is structured according to a linear progression, but also, at the same time, as a sequence of fragments which could be separated from each other. The Gospel, the Letter and the Stromateis are also organized in a heterogeneous and hierarchical way but exist, at the same time, as a homogeneous and unorganized textual material. Consequently, the three texts are oscillating between two kinds of structuring and between two kings of organizing, which explain the presence, inside them, of ways of recomposing the text which are neither linear nor fragmentary. The experience of reading the Gospel, the Letter and the Stromateis is also an experience of recomposing the three texts in new ways. The second aspect which characterizes the functioning of this corpus is about the use of language. The oscillating character of the three texts concerning their structure and organization leads to a language which doesn’t say but shows, in a twofold way: it shows beyond language and shows language itself. Thus, this work builds up a literary model, which exists in the three works but which also applies to other texts and even to other works from other arts.
Dans une perspective comparatiste, ce travail met en évidence un fonctionnement similaire dans l’Évangile selon Marc, la Lettre apocryphe de Jacques et les Stromates de Clément d’Alexandrie. Ce fonctionnement consiste en deux aspects. Le premier est un mode ambivalent de construction du texte. Dans les trois œuvres, le texte est structuré selon une progression linéaire mais aussi, en même temps, comme une suite de fragments dissociables les uns des autres. L’Évangile, la Lettre et les Stromates sont également chacun organisés de manière hétérogène et hiérarchisée mais se présentent en même temps comme une matière textuelle homogène et inorganisée. En conséquence, les trois textes oscillent entre deux types de structure et entre deux types d’organisation, ce qui explique la présence, à l’intérieur d’eux, de modes de recomposition du texte qui ne sont ni la linéarité ni la fragmentation. L’expérience de lecture de l’Évangile, de la Lettre et des Stromates est également une recomposition de ces trois textes selon des modalités nouvelles. Le second aspect propre au fonctionnement de ce corpus concerne l’usage du langage. Les oscillations qui caractérisent la structure et l’organisation des trois textes conduisent à la mise en œuvre d’un langage qui ne dit pas mais montre, d’une double façon : qui montre au-delà du langage et montre le langage lui-même. Ainsi, ce travail élabore un modèle littéraire commun aux trois œuvres mais aussi applicable à d’autres textes, voire à d’autres œuvres, relevant d’autres arts.
